Blue Jackets' Werenski (hernia) to miss rest of season

Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Zach Werenski is expected to undergo season-ending hernia surgery next week, the team announced Friday.

Werenski was placed on injured reserve Friday, 광주 성형외과 one day after logging 23:14 of ice time and scoring a goal in the Blue Jackets’ 6-4 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

“Zach has been playing through the injury for most of the season and as much as we would like to have him in the lineup, having the surgery now is the right decision and will allow him to be 100 percent before the start of training camp in the fall,” Blue Jackets general manager Jarmo Kekalainen said.

Werenski, 23, 광주 성형외과 has recorded 20 points (seven goals, 광주 성형외과 13 assists) in 35 games this season.

He has 189 points (65 goals, 124 assists) in 335 career games since being selected by the Blue Jackets with the eighth overall pick of the 2015 NHL Draft.
