Apple could release an iPad keyboard with a trackpad, report reveals

Apple is rumored to be working on a secret weapon that will help its iPad stand up against traditional laptops – a keyboard with a built-in trackpad.

A new report from reveals the tech giant is planning on release the redesigned iPad keyboard ‘alongside the next version of the iPad Pro expected later this year.’

Sources close to the matter said the design of the iPad Pro Smart will be ‘made of materials similar’ to the current smart bidet Keyboards.

Previous reports had suggested that Apple was planning a new version of the Smart Keyboard, but The Information takes things a step farther with siting an anonymous source.

‘Apple is planning to release an iPad keyboard accessory later this year that will include a built-in trackpad, the latest step in its effort to position the tablet device as an alternative to laptop computers, according to a person familiar with the matter. The company will likely release the accessory alongside the next version of the iPad Pro expected later this year, the person added.

The images show two variations, an 11-inch and 12.9-inch, with a camera bump boasting three lenses.

According to the leaks, the smaller iPad would be designed with a metal back, whereas the larger variant would have a glass back panel.

‘There is no confirmed details about the material of the back of both models,’ Jignesh Padhiyar with iGeeks Blog wrote.

‘Given the Apple legacy, we can claim that the brand will install A13X chip in the 2020 iPads.

‘We have been tracking the releases of iPhones, and Apple always introduces new chipset in September or October, and then the same chip is installed in iPads.’

In addition to a redesigned iPad Pro duo, Apple is set to release seven new iPhones in 2020 alone – including an array of 4G and 5G iPhone 12 models and the long-awaited iPhone SE.

Details of the new models were revealed in a private note to investors by analyst Jun Zhang of international brokers Rosenblatt Securities, leaked to Apple Insider.

The note states that the iPhone SE 2 – the successor to the iPhone SE, which was released in 2016 – will launch in March 2020.

It will reportedly feature a 5.1-inch LCD display, a single rear camera and Apple’s latest A13 chip.

It will use TouchID fingerprint recognition for authentication rather than the newer FaceID facial recognition technology, and will only support 4G, not 5G.

As a result it is likely to be the cheapest model released next year, with a previous report by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo pointing to a price tag of just $399 (£299).

Meanwhile, Apple’s main iPhone 12 lineup will be released later in the year – most likely in September.

This is said to include three 5G models – the 5.4-inch iPhone 12 Pro 5G, the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro Plus 5G, and the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max 5G.

There will also be three 4G models – the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 4G, the 5.4-inch iPhone 12 Pro 4G and the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro Plus 4G.
