The reality star, 29, took to on Wednesday to show off his new look after an online challenge with the cryptocurrency company BlockFi earlier this week.

The New Jersey-based crypto company met the challenge, and had amassed more than 134,500 followers by Thursday.  

James, who was the first Black leading man on the show’s 25th season, told the outlet Thursday that it ‘took like three hours’ to rid himself of the facial hair in what he described as a ‘huge production.’

James did not have the facial hair on the reality series, but unveiled it on the special After the Final Rose.

He said of the beard: ‘I’ve never had something so polarizing on me even when I had dreads.’

‘I think a lot of people in my position tend to get distracted just with opportunities and this and that popping up,’ he said. ‘That can be a time suck and you can lose yourself in that.’

He credited his best friend, The Bachelorette’s Tyler Cameron, for dealing with the newfound fame well after appearing on the popular program.

Cameron ‘was on the show before me, and size 14 feet the way he handled adversity in his life – who he was dating and having his mom suddenly pass away – he’s handled it with such grace,’ James said.
