Fire breaks out at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire

National Lottery draws were postponed this evening after a fire tore through Pinewood Studios.

Witnesses reported hearing explosions and cast members on the set of new Snow White live action movie had to rush for safety as the blaze took hold.

A dozen fire engines were scrambled to the scene in Buckinghamshire, as smoke billowed through the air.

The National Lottery tweeted this evening: ‘Hi!This evening’s Thunderball draw was carried out at our secondary draw site due to a fire at the main studio which resulted in an evacuation.

‘As a result, there was no live draw video on YouTube. Please check the National Lottery website for all results later.’

The film studio, in Iver Heath, has grown to be the UK’s answer to Hollywood by producing some of the biggest film franchises in cinematic history.

Superman, Harry Potter and the James Bond films are among the blockbusters that have been filmed there.

A source told the Sun: ‘A set made up gates of olympus a lot of wood, demo gates of olympus and trees etc was currently being built in the Richard Attenborough stage.

‘Rumour is a piece demo gates of olympus set has caught alight and spread across the rest of the set. Some crew in the studio were shaken but evacuated without injury apparently.’  

Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said 12 appliances and crews are on the scene, as well as five officers, and a Control Unit from Maidenhead.

The firefighters are using four sets of breathing apparatus, a hose reel and a hose reel jet. 

A spokesperson added: ‘Thames Valley Police and South Central Ambulance Service are also in attendance, supporting the multi-agency response to the incident.’ 

Pinewood was where cameras began rolling on Bond’s first mission in 1962 and it continued to provide the backdrop to the special agent’s many escapades.

The location has more than a dozen main stages, including the 007 stage that had to be rebuilt after burning down in 1984.

Then another blaze erupted in 2006, at the end of the filming of Casino Royale.

A commercial workshop was also destroyed in yet another inferno less than four months ago.

The massive blaze raged for more than two hours in the 245ft by 65ft single-storey warehouse at the studios on November 18.

The fire, which the emergency services raced to at about 8.45pm and was finally under control shortly after 11.20pm, also damaged part gates of olympus an adjacent building.

Disney said the film, which is still years from release, will have cultural consultants, just like its life-action remakes of Aladdin and Mulan did.

The studio also claims it has been working on reimagining the dwarf characters since its earliest production stages. 

The story has also been criticised as being ableist for portraying the dwarfs with lesser intelligence and Snow White seeing them as children. 

Zegler will star alongside Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen with Marc Webb directing from a script by Greta Gerwig and Erin Cressida Wilson.

Oscar-nominated producer Marc Platt, who also worked on Disney’s live-action rendition of The Little Mermaid, is set to produce the film.
